Bed Bugs Carpet Cleaning
Bed bugs do not only infest your mattresses, they also like to hide in couches, rugs, carpets and even draperies. This is why, when you begin treatment, it is important to work on these items as well to completely rid your house of these pesky bugs.
For bed bugs carpet cleaning, you can either get a professional bug control company or professional carpet cleaners to get rid of the bugs in your carpet; or you can also do the carpet cleaning yourself.
Do-It-Yourself Bed Bugs Carpet Cleaning
When ridding your carpet of bed bugs, you also have two options: vacuum cleaner or steam cleaner. Regular vacuum cleaners suck the bugs out of the carpet although sometimes, there will be eggs left on the carpet which will then of course hatch and develop into mature bugs.
If you do opt to go with the vacuum cleaner, make sure that the container is well-sealed and that when you clean it, make sure to do it outside and transfer the dirt and the bugs in a thick plastic and seal it as well, that is, if your vacuum cleaner does not use disposable bags.
On the other hand, you can also steam clean the carpet at approximately 150 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is just the right level to kill the bugs as well as get rid of the eggs and the larvae.
For best results, you may want to vacuum clean first and then follow it up with steam cleaning. Make sure that you will keep all debris in a tightly sealed plastic bag to avoid re-infestation.
You may repeat the process about a week after your initial cleaning just to make sure that no bugs were left undetected.
Cleaning the Entire House
It is important that you get rid of the bugs in all areas in the house. This includes every room and every item that bed bugs are known to attach to. For cleaning your drapes and furniture, you may use the same procedures that you used in carpet cleaning when getting rid of bed bugs: vacuum cleaning and steam cleaning.
For clothes and linens, you should wash these in hot water. For items that cannot be washed, you may put these in the dryer and set the temperature on high. Bed bugs do not do well in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
It is important to regularly wash all pieces of clothing, bedroom and bathroom linens to discourage further bug infestation.
