Borax Uses
There are many uses for borax. It is known mainly for laundry and general household cleaning. However, it can also be used in many other ways. The following shows some of the ways it can be used.
Removing Kitchen Stains
You can use borax paste to get rid of stains from porcelain or stainless steel sinks. Borax paste can also be used for removing stovetop stains. Just mix a cup of borax with one-fourth cup of lemon. Combine the two until you get a thick paste. Dip a sponge or rug into the mixture. Rub the stained area and wash it off with warm water. Repeat the process if there are more stains.
Remove Carpet Stains
Dampen the stained area with water. Rub in a bit of borax powder on it. Let the affected area dry on its own. When it dries, vacuum the area. Note: before trying this on the whole carpet, apply only a small amount in a discreet spot to see if discoloration will set in.
You can also use the powder to get rid of mildew on fabrics. You have to mix 2 cups of borax with a half gallon of water. Immerse the fabric in the mix until the stains are removed.
Another of the uses for borax is for removing stains on upholstery. Mix a couple of cups of water with ½ cup of borax. Use a sponge to wipe the upholstery.
Borax Pest Control
Borax is also used for getting rid of fleas and ticks. To use, sprinkle the powder on carpets and other afflicted areas. You can also apply the borax on pet bedding and other areas. Just make sure that your pet doesn’t get near it.
Leave the borax on for a couple of hours before vacuuming it away. Dispose of the vacuum bags in a trash can. Make sure that the trash can is not inside your house.
To get rid of ants, combine two parts borax and one part sugar. Spray this on the area where the ants are. Make sure that children and pets are nowhere near the area.
Weed Killers
Borax can also be used to kill weeds. Sprinkle the borax on the weeds or the crevices around your house. This will kill all the weeds in the area. In addition, it will prevent any new weeds from sprouting.
As these facts show, there are several uses for borax. Whether it is removing pests or cleaning, you will definitely find it is something useful to have.
