Flea Related Cat Diseases

FAD (flea allergy dermatitis) produces raised red bumps and itchy red skin. This is the result of flea allergy. If the larval of fleas consume tapeworm eggs, the egg will grow in the cat. This can cause other problems. Another ailment caused by cat fleas is typhus. The symptoms include tiredness and muscle pan.
Treatments and Prevention
There are several ways to remove the fleas. The following are some of the methods you can use.
Flea Combs
Comb the cat and the fleas will stick to it. Dip the comb in a jar filled with water and detergent. This will kill the fleas. Some people find it is more effective if you first dip the comb in the jar before combing the cat.
Lavender
Simply plant the lavender in your garden. This will keep fleas away. You can also put several of these flowers in your home. Aside from keeping fleas away, they also add ambience.
Brewster’s Yeast
Adding this to your cat’s diet is a good idea because it is a natural flea deterrent. Sprinkle a teaspoon of the yeast on the food. You can buy these in many pet stores.
Commercially Available Flea Products
Spot-on treatments are the most widely used. They act quickly and can kill fleas within hours. These come in doses which are administered at the back of the cat’s neck.
Spot-on treatments have to be used every month or so to keep the fleas from returning. Flea shampoos are most effective if the fleas are only a few. Other methods flea control products are flea collars, powders, dips and pills.
Tips
Clean your home because the other fleas are scattered around the house. Vacuum the house. If necessary, vacuum numerous times daily. You should pay close attention to dark corners. That is the most likely hiding place of the fleas.
Knowing as much as you can about cat fleas is crucial is learning how to stop them. By being aware of the facts, the dangers posed by the fleas will be reduced if not totally eradicated.
