Flea Bites Carpet Cleaning
You can avoid flea bites by getting rid of the pests in your home. While fleas can be found all over the house, many of them hide in carpets. Many fleas in fact, lay their eggs in the carpet fibers.
Flea Carpet Cleaning Tips
There are several methods you can use. Vacuuming the carpet on a regular basis will not just kill fleas; it will also keep them away. An alternative is to use rug shampoo cleaners. Follow the directions for using the shampoo.
You can also use diatomaceous earth (DE). Sprinkle the powder onto the carpet. This will kill the fleas. If you are sensitive to dust, wear a face mask. Goggles will help too if your eyes are affected by dust.
DE is not just effective in removing fleas; they are also harmless. Except for mild allergic reactions, people and animals exposed to it are not harmed.
Steam cleaning will also kill the fleas in your carpet. There are several steam cleaning services you can go to. Remember that the cost will vary per service and depends on the length of rental. You can also use borax.
This is sprinkled on the carpet and flooring. It can be mixed with salt or used on its own. Either way, it should be left on overnight or longer before being vacuumed off.
How to Treat Bites or Wounds Caused by Fleas
First of all you need to be certain the bite is from a flea. The bite will be reddish, itchy and hard. It won’t be large and there won’t be swelling either. In a few cases of flea bites there will be bleeding.
If you are bitten, wash the area with cold water and soap. You can also use an antiseptic lotion. Don’t use warm or hot water because it will make the bite itchier. Instead, you can apply skin ointment or a cold pack over it. Mild steroid creams can remove the itchy sensation.
If there is inflammation, apply hydrocortisone cream over it. That should be enough to reduce the itchy feeling. These medications are available over the counter. Never scratch the area because it may lead to bleeding.
The importance of cleaning rugs and carpets to avoid flea bites cannot be overestimated. Regular cleaning of your carpet and environment will repel the fleas. It will also help if you bathe your pet on a consistent basis.
