Fleas can be considered as one of the most annoying pests that can ever infest your home. They do not only pose a threat to your pets they also threaten your loved ones as well. To make things worse, they can also spread almost anywhere. Effective flea control is one of the issues that pet owners and others will have to prioritize during times of infestation.

Know Where to Look

You can’t tell if you already have a flea infestation if you don’t know where to look. One flea found on your dog may already mean that they are starting to invade your home. Fleas can move into almost any place in your home. However, there are certain places where you should look to find them.

You will usually find them in the places or locations where your dog plays or sleeps at night. In order to make sure that your dog or cat has them, just groom them. If you find little specks of black dirt-like things falling off then you know what you’re looking at.

Other than your pet and in the kennel, you can also find them in your carpet and on your couch. They usually hide in places that are usually humid and warm. This simply means anything that you lie on or sit on can be a potential hiding place for these little pests. Effective flea control will require one to know exactly where to locate them in order to administer the right solutions for each unique situation.

Effective Flea Control – Pets

One of the first things you want to do to during a flea infestation is to get them off your pets. Fleas feed on blood, your pet’s blood to be exact. One good method of flea control is to cut off their food supply. The best advice to get rid of fleas infesting your pets is to visit your vet.

Your vet may recommend various types of flea medication. You may have heard of big names such as Frontline, Advantage, K-9 Advantix, Revolution, and Program. Some of these can kill both fleas and ticks. Your vet will also recommend several things like cleaning up your surroundings and give you tips on how to get these little critters.

Effective Flea Control – Your Home

There are a few things you can do to get rid of the fleas in your house. You basically just need to vacuum your furniture, carpets, and other possible breeding locations on a regular basis. There is no need for a special vacuum, so your trusty old vacuum will do the job. You’ll be ridding yourself of adult fleas, eggs, pupae, and eggs.

Another tool in effective flea control is to use a flea trap. You can set them up after you’re done vacuuming your home. Place them where the fleas were generally found. You can monitor how many fleas each trap can catch. This will help you figure if you still have an infestation or if more work needs to be done in certain places.
