There are various ways to kill fleas. With a good number of products out in the market today, you will find that you have a lot of options when looking for the right product to remove fleas on your pet and in your home.

Flea killers include insecticide sprays, topical solutions, oral medications, flea collars, and flea granules; among others. Some of these may contain chemicals while others have natural ingredients.

A few of these can also be made right in your own home. Whatever you decide upon, the two most important factors that you need to look into are the effectiveness of the product and just how safe the product is on your pet and on you.

Different Types of Flea Killers

Flea Sprays

These sprays, also known as insecticides, kill the fleas with the chemicals that they contain. Flea sprays today usually do not have that strong odor so noticeable in insecticides sold a couple of years back.

Most of these actually have a mild, pleasant smell so your pet and your family will not be exposed to a strong odor that usually makes you cough or sneeze. However, you have to make sure that you are getting the right product as some sprays can be harmful to dogs while others are harmful to cats.

Shampoos and Soaps for Fleas

There are special types of shampoos that kill fleas on your pets while also making them feel refreshed. You can use these every time you give your pet a bath until you’re sure that you have gotten rid of all the fleas infesting your pets.

However, it is still advisable to check the instructions indicated in the packaging of the soap or shampoo to ensure that you are using it the right way and are not over-using it lest it harms your pet.

Shampoo for Itching

Your pet has the tendency to keep scratching once it has been infested by fleas. While there are shampoos to get rid of the fleas, there are also shampoos to help your pet with the itching.

An oatmeal-based shampoo is a good way to alleviate the itch and give your pet relief from the incessant scratching.

Natural Flea Killers

There are now natural flea control products that are commercially available. These do not contain any type of chemical but instead have natural ingredients to get rid of the fleas.

You may also make your own natural remedies for flea control and the ingredients here are what you would normally find in the commercially sold natural flea control products.
