Fleas in House

There are several home medications for fleas, including those that are non-toxic. Here are some safe ways to remove fleas and prevent them from infesting your home.

Citrus and Aromatherapy

A simple cure is to slice a lemon in quarters and soak them in boiling water. Allow this to steep overnight. Spray this behind your pet’s ears, the tail and around the head.

This will remove the fleas. You can also make aromatherapy by mixing lavender oils with almond carrier oil. Stir this and apply on the affected areas. This will act as a flea deterrent.

Natural Flea Collars

Other effective home medications for fleas include natural flea collars. You can make one by rubbing essential oils of geranium, eucalyptus or lavender on a bandana. Warning: some cats may be sensitive to essential oils.

Flea Baths

If your pet dog is heavily infested, an essential oil bath will help. You can add drops of rosemary leaves, lavender or tea tree oils. Aside from an essential oil bath, you may give the animal a baby shampoo bath. In many cases, baby shampoos will work just like flea shampoos.

Diatomaceous Earth and Cedar Wood

Diatomaceous earth will keep fleas from infesting your yard. Sprinkle them in your pool’s filtration system. Putting some cedar chips by your fence deters fleas as well. The herb tansy is another deterrent against fleas. Just plant some around your pet’s pen. It should keep the fleas away.

Brewer’s Yeast

Brewer’s yeast for animals is another natural deterrent against fleas. Sprinkle a teaspoon of it in your pet’s meal. A daily dose of this will build up the animal’s immune system. This will make them more resistant to fleas.

At the same time, the yeast makes the animal’s blood taste bad for the fleas. The same results can be attained by adding a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in their drink.

Vacuum the House

Vacuum all the furniture. Dispose of the bags once they are full. Pay extra attention to areas below the furniture and under the bed. Wash the pet’s bedding and toys with soap and hot water. Any clothes, linen and bed sheets that are infested should be washed with hot water too.

These home medications for fleas ought to remove any threats posed by the fleas. When the fleas have been eradicated, continue washing the bedding on a weekly basis. At the same time, keeping the cedar chips around the house will help.
