Becoming aware of specific times of the year when fleas thrive is necessary if you want to prevent infestation. Fleas are most active in warm and wet weather which basically means that flea season starts in the beginning of spring and all through summer.
However, some locations have warm weather for most of the year which means that it could last well into December. This being said, it is still best to keep on your toes, watching out for fleas so you can immediately act on it before it starts to spread.

For instance, if you input New York; you will be given a list of specific cities in New York and when you click on any one of these, you can immediately see your area’s flea season.
In Albany, New York for instance; flea season starts in March, peaks in July and August and then begins to drop down in succeeding months.
Prevention First, Cure Later
Truth be told, if you take careful measures to prevent flea infestation, you may never need to look for a cure. If you have a lawn or a yard, begin your preventive measures here and then work your way up going to your pets and then your home.
You can use pesticides that can effectively keep fleas at bay but won’t be harmful to your plants or your pets. Most of the time, these pesticides do not only work on fleas but they are also effective in preventing tick infestation.
For your pets, you can start them with a flea collar. Flea collars are not only good at discouraging fleas from inhabiting your pets but these are also effective in killing fleas, should any happen to be on your pet already.
You may also use a flea shampoo on your pets each time you bathe them.
As for your home, you can start be regularly vacuuming your carpets, drapes and upholstered furniture. Also make it a point to regularly change your bedroom linens and launder soiled clothes weekly. If fleas happen to be lurking in your laundry pile or bed covers; washing them on a regular basis will kill the fleas.
