Flea Spray Carpet

Flea carpet sprays are a type of insecticide used to kill fleas rugs and carpets. Aside from destroying adult fleas, many of these sprays are capable of destroying the flea eggs and larvae.

Usage

You should follow the directions closely as these products contain chemicals that may be hazardous if used incorrectly. Many of them require you to just spray on the carpet. For the best results however, it is best to do some vacuuming first.

Vacuum the carpet and then use the spray. Some would also recommend vacuuming again after the spray. If there are any specific instructions, follow it to the letter.

What is IGR?

IGR stands for insect growth regulator. This is a chemical that stops flea egg and larvae development. IGR can also stop fleas from reproducing. IGR “chemicals” are not chemicals in the real sense of the word. These are actually man-made proteins that disrupt the enzymes in fleas.

There are many IGR ingredients, but methoprene and nylar are the most widely used in flea carpet sprays. These are typically used with pyrethrins (an insecticide) to destroy the adult fleas. Nylar meanwhile, is the ingredient that hinders flea growth. The role of methoprene is to prevent flea larva and eggs from developing.

Why Flea Control is Necessary

Killing fleas is the only way to stop them from pestering your pet. Fleas may also carry various kinds of diseases. Flea-infested animals will scratch incessantly. This can lead to sores, hair loss and even wounds or bleeding.

If kittens or puppies are afflicted, they may develop anemia and die. Fleas may also carry tapeworm eggs. If these hatch in the animal’s body, it will bring additional problems. Fleas can also bite humans.

Hiding Places

Fleas like to hide in carpets, rugs and similar materials. They can also be found in cracks on floors. If they are not removed, the flea eggs hibernating there will grow. When they reach maturity, they will search fro a host.

If there are more than a few adult fleas in your home, these can multiply into the thousands quickly. That is the reason why sprays have to be used to get rid of them.

If you are going to use flea carpet sprays, make sure your pet doesn’t get anywhere near it. Don’t let people inhale the chemicals either. Apply only the amount necessary. Keeping your home clean will keep ticks and fleas away.
