By having your own homemade flea spray, you don’t have to cough up money to buy any of the commercial products. For this spray, the following will be necessary.

Ingredients

Water
Spray bottle
Vacuum bags
Vacuum
Borax powdered soap

Step 1

Take off all the throw rugs, blankets and bedspreads and wash them using the borax. Put these items in sealed bags when they are dry. This will ensure the fleas don’t get them. Set the bags aside. You’ll put them back on after the fleas are removed.

Step 2

Put some water and borax in the spray bottle. There has to be a couple of teaspoons of borax per two cups of water. Shake the bottle until the borax has dissolved.

Step 3

Spray the contents of the bottle into the fabric furniture and carpets. There’s no need to drench the house; a light mist will be fine. Spray below the furniture, moving them aside if needed. Pay close attention areas beneath couches and beds. These are some of the most likely hiding places of fleas.

Step 4

Let the spray mixture sit on the furniture and carpets for three hours minimum. This will give the borax time to work. Use the time to take your pet out of the house and give them a flea bath.

Step 5

After three hours or more, vacuum the borax off the furnishings. Make sure you vacuum thoroughly. Do not leave any traces of the fleas or borax.

Step 6

After using this flea spray, dispatch the vacuum bags. Throw the bags in the trash can outside your house or flush the fleas down the toilet. If you’re going to throw them in the trash, be certain your pet won’t be able to open it.

Step 7

If there are any fleas left, repeat the cleaning process.

Tips

You can purchase borax in the clothing detergent part of the supermarket. Apart from spraying, you can also sprinkle it. Sprinkle the powder on the furnishings. Let it sit for a few hours and then vacuum it.

Just make sure the fabrics you sprayed with borax are dried before using the vacuum. Don’t wait for the flea infestation to spread; apply the spray as soon as you see a single flea in the house.

Although there are several commercial products available, the homemade flea spray is preferred by many. Aside from being cheaper, there is no need to worry about possible side effects from chemicals.
