Flea Traps
There are various flea traps available in the market today. These work much like a fly trap where the fleas, once they land on the trap, are stuck on the sticky pad. However, the pads are more commonly used in commercial flea traps.
Homemade traps use other means to trap the fleas.
While these traps provide one good way to get rid of the fleas, it is recommended that these be used together with other flea control measures so you can be sure that you will be completely getting rid of all the fleas infesting your home.
Commercial Flea Traps
Commercial traps are usually electronic devices that use two tools to trap the fleas: a small heat lamp and a sticky pad. You basically just turn on the heat lamp and then place a sticky pad directly under the light.
There is a designated place where you can put the sticky pad. What the heat lamp does is attract the fleas. The warmth emanating from the light will readily attract the fleas and as they begin to crawl under the light, they will get trapped by the sticky pad and remain stuck.
The trap works between a range of twenty-five feet and thirty feet; and this can trap fleas all throughout the day and night.
Homemade Flea Traps
For a more affordable way of trapping fleas, you can make your own trap by using basic tools that you can readily find around the house. Take a bowl or any low canister and then half-fill this with water.
Add about a teaspoonful of soap to the water. This will sink the fleas once they land on the water. Place the bowl under a small lamp and leave it on for the entire night.
In the morning, you can readily see fleas trapped in the bowl. Replace the water and soap solution and then repeat the process. For best results, place a few of these traps in different locations around the house all at the same time.
You can also place several bowls filled with the soap and water solution on the window sills where there is direct sunlight. Again, the heat will attract the fleas and they will start crawling into the bowls.
When using your homemade traps, make sure that they are not within easy reach of your young children and your pets. They can accidentally drink the water which may cause stomach problems.
By using your traps together with other flea control treatments, you can have a higher chance of completely eradicating your flea problem.
