Fleas in a Carpet
The following ways will help you remove fleas in a carpet. Any of these will work, but it is important that you apply the treatment as early as possible. Don’t wait for the fleas to reach unmanageable levels.
Borate Carpet Cleaners
To use, spread the powder across the rug or carpet. Make certain you apply it on the whole carpet. If not, the treatment will have no effect. If you like, combine the borate with a carpet shampooing device and detergent. You can use this to clean the carpet.
Borate based cleaners are able to kill not just fleas, but also their larvae and eggs. At the same time it prevents mature fleas from multiplying. If you used a powder-based borate cleaner, vacuum the carpet after five or seven days.
After a few weeks, repeat the process and vacuum it again. This will kill any fleas and eggs left over from the first cleanup. Borate based cleaners will keep fleas away for at least a year.
Using Vacuum Cleaners
One of the most popular ways to remove fleas in a carpet is to just use the vacuum. If there are only a few fleas, this method alone should work. Just make sure the vacuum is equipped with a strong suction. Vacuum the carpets thoroughly.
If necessary, vacuum everyday until the fleas disappear. While you are at it, vacuum the area under the cushions. Vacuum the cracks and crevices; fleas like to lurk there.
Carpet Shampoos and DE
If vacuuming does not work, consider using a rug shampoo. A vacuum can get the fleas and eggs, but larvae may be left behind. By using a carpet shampoo, you’ll be able to remove the larvae as well.
Follow the instructions on how to use the product. This may vary depending on the manufacturer. An alternative is diatomaceous earth (DE). Spray this on the carpet. You should also apply some on the furniture near the carpet. That should get rid of the fleas around the room.
Tips
Apply flea control products on your pet. There is no point cleaning the carpet if the main source still has fleas. You should also clean the rest of the house and yard. This will remove all possible flea habitations.
You have several options when it comes to removing fleas in a carpet. If you are consistent with its application, you will be able to get rid of the infestations.
