So you have a flea problem in your home and as you are considering all options available to you to get rid of the fleas, you begin to feel itchy on your head and you can actually sense little critters crawling on your head.

You either have lice or you may just be the latest victim of the fleas infesting your home. Fleas on human hair is actually not an uncommon occurrence. However, common or not, as with any bug or insect problem, instant action is necessary.

How to Treat Fleas on Human Hair

If you wish to go the chemical way, you’d best get the advice of your doctor as to what specific products you can use to get rid of the fleas on your hair. It is important that you closely work with your doctor on this one since you may be sensitive to some of the chemicals found in flea control on humans.

The last thing you want to happen is to develop complications as you are treating fleas on your hair.

The first thing you need to do is to naturally make sure first that you really do have fleas on your hair and not some other bug or insect known to feed on humans.

Next, do not under any circumstance, use flea products for your pets! These could be harmful on you since your skin is more sensitive than the skins of your pets.

Finally, decide on whether you want to use chemicals or you want to go natural on this one.

Natural Home Remedies for Fleas on Human Hair

If you cannot visit your doctor immediately, you may want to use home treatments first as your initial step in getting the fleas out of your hair. You can use baking soda for your home treatment.

Take about one tablespoon of baking soda and mix this with two cups of warm water. Make sure that you thoroughly mix this and then transfer the solution to a spray bottle. You should use a new sprayer since old sprayers may have chemicals leftover from your previous use of the bottle.

Spray on your hair generously, making sure to avoid the eyes. Massage your hair and scalp for about a minute or two and then cover your head with a shower cap. Leave on for approximately fifteen minutes and then rinse with warm, running water.

Comb out the dead fleas and their eggs from your hair and then rinse a second time. Wash your hair with a mild lemon dishwashing soap. Do not use dishwashing detergents!

Massage the hair and scalp and then use a flea comb to once again get rid of the fleas and the eggs; and then rinse. You may need to do this again but make sure that you do it on alternate days so you won’t harm your scalp.
