You can also keep fleas away by adding a few drops of lavender oil with water. This will also give the dog a nice smell. Another popular repellent is citrus. Cut the lemon in quarters and immerse them in boiling water. Steep it for the night and spray this on your pet the following day.

Whichever of the flea treatments for dogs you use, you have to be consistent. That is, apply the treatment until the fleas disappear. Afterwards, keep your home clean so the fleas will be discouraged from coming.
