Fleas Treatment – Natural
Natural flea treatments are preferred by many because they are non-toxic. Properly applied, they can be as effective as commercial products in killing fleas. Many of them can also prevent fleas from breeding in your home.
Pennyroyal Herbs
Plant this herb around your home and the dog/cathouse. These act as natural repellents against fleas. If your pet is indoors, consider growing or keeping the pennyroyal indoors.
Lemon Scented Soaps and Borax
Many people remove fleas by bathing their pets in warm water and lemon scented soaps. Bathing the animal regularly will kill the fleas. Fleas scattered inside the house may be removed by sprinkling some borax on the floor. Borax can also be sprinkled on the lawn and grass outside your home. This will kill the fleas before they get a chance to enter your home.
Cedar Wood or Chips
One of the most effective natural flea treatments is cedar wood. Place these chips under your pet’s bedding to keep fleas away. Cedar wood chips should also be placed at room corners and under tables and chairs. These are the favorite hiding places of fleas. By putting cedar chips outside your home, the fleas won’t be able to get in your home.
Natural Flea Sprays
Rather than use chemical-based sprays, essential oil sprays may be utilized instead. Some of the effective essential oils are lavender, lemongrass and citronella. Applying this on your pet dog will not produce any unwanted side effects. In fact it has detoxifying ingredients. Eucalyptus leaves are also known for keeping fleas away.
Herbal Flea Dips
Get a couple of cups of fresh rosemary leaves. Add them to a couple of pints of water. Boil this for half an hour. Strain the liquid and throw away the leaves. Combine this with 1 gallon of water (warm). Pour the mixture over the animal.
Let the pet air dry; don’t rinse it. This should be done on hot days only. Once the animal is dry, use a flea comb to remove any remaining fleas.
Yeast
Yeast is sometimes given to pets. The yeast will give the blood an unpleasant taste. Fleas will abhor its taste and shy away from the animal. A teaspoon of apple cider juice will also boost the pet’s immunity.
These natural flea treatments will remove the pests from your pet
and home. Couple this with a clean household, and you will notice the flea threats reduced.
