Killing fleas in carpets can be done in many ways. The following are some of the simplest but most effective ways to eradicate these pests from your carpet and home.

Requirements

Salt
Dish detergent
Diatomaceous earth

Step 1

Start by treating your pet. A flea shampoo is the quickest way to remove the fleas. Use a flea comb to remove any remaining fleas on your pet afterwards. Unless you treat your pet, any treatment you use on the carpet will be to no avail.

Step 2

Get a vacuum bag and put some salt or diatomaceous earth (DE) in it. An alternative is borax. Make sure the bag is disposable. When you vacuum the fleas, the presence of any of these substances will kill the fleas. You don’t have to worry about the fleas crawling out of the trash hags.

Step 3

Killing fleas in carpets will be easier if you sprinkle the carpet with salt. Let the salt sit there for 24 hours. This will eradicate the fleas and their eggs. After 24 hours, vacuum the carpet. You will see the dead fleas being sucked in the vacuum.

Be certain that you vacuum all parts of the carpet. Scrutinize the carpet corners, as fleas lurk there often. You should also vacuum the furniture near carpets and rugs.

Step 4

If the fleas are persistent, dust DE on the carpet. This substance will kill the fleas. It is also nontoxic for humans and pets. If you don’t want to inhale the dust, wear a mask. Leave the DE on the carpet for a few hours before you vacuum it.

Step 5

Steam cleaning is another way to remove the fleas on your carpet. Use water and borax in your carpet cleaner. The water will drown the insects while the borax will stick to the carpet. This will prevent the other fleas from maturing. This method will keep those fleas away for a year. Then you can repeat the prcoess.

Tips and Warnings

Fleas will stay away from your pet if you add a teaspoonful of yeast to their meal. A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar will also drive fleas away. The reason is they make the blood taste unpleasant.

Killing fleas in carpets will take some time, but proper application of any of the methods above will ensure they are eradicated. As stated, it is incumbent that you treat your pet so the fleas won’t have a source to return to.
