postheadericon Salt for Flea Removal

Using salt to remove fleas is easier and safer compared to other chemicals and insecticides. The salt pierces the flea’s skin, so the parasite is rendered incapable of storing liquid. This leads to dehydration and death. Unlike pesticides, you don’t have to worry about any side effects emanating from its use.

Step 1

Begin by vacuuming the furniture. Vacuum all the furniture your pet rests and plays on. If there are lots of fleas, it’s better if you vacuum all the furniture in the house.

Move the furniture aside so you can vacuum the floors beneath. It is crucial that you vacuum under the furniture because majority of the fleas will hide there. In other words, be thorough.

Step 2

Secure the vacuum bags and throw it in a garbage bag. Throw the bag in an outdoor trash container. Once you have done this, you can now start using salt to remove fleas.

Step 3

Sprinkle the carpet and flooring with salt. Use enough so that all the floorings are covered. Don’t forget to apply some extra salt on the carpet corners; fleas and ticks lurk there.

Don’t let your pet near the floors where you have put salt. Apply the salt everywhere except your bedroom. Keep your pet in the bedroom for the night. Leave the salt overnight.

Step 4

Vacuum the salt off the flooring in the morning. Use a disposable vacuum bag. Throw the bag in the outdoor trash can.

Step 5

Sprinkle the salt in the bedroom. Keep your pet out of the room for the night. Vacuum the room when you wake up in the morning. You will see all the dead fleas mixed in with the salt. Again, throw the vacuum cleaner bags in the trash can outside your home.

Removing the Fleas on Your Pet

Getting salt on your pet’s coat isn’t harmful, but it can’t remove the fleas effectively. The best method is a flea bath. Buy some flea shampoos and bathe your pet. Keep the shampoo on your pet for five minutes, or whatever is indicated in the instructions.

Rinse your pet. The fleas will fall in the water dead. After bathing, use a flea comb to remove any remaining fleas on the animal.

Using salt to remove fleas will be most effective if you apply substantial amounts. By applying enough salt, the fleas and their eggs will be dehydrated. Just remember to leave the salt there overnight.
