Tick Season
All animals will usually have an active season and an inactive season. Mammals and other larger animals either hibernate or migrate during the winter or colder seasons. The same is also true with smaller insects and even parasites. For instance, there is also what is called a tick season when ticks roam around actively and spread onto different hosts. Taking preventive measures during the said season will help curb an infestation.
The Tick Season
It is a fact that ticks are usually active when it is warm and humid. These are the weather conditions that appeal the most to these pesky parasites. They generally become very active beginning in March and may last all summer long, though they seem to mellow down when the month of June comes to an end. This is generally considered the peak season for these little parasites.
However, do take note that there is also another tick season for these little pests. They also tend to be quite active from August until the month of October. It is generally understood that ticks will become pretty less active come winter. Remember that tick activity is triggered by warmer humid climates or weather conditions.
That having been said, in case winter gets to be a bit too warm compared to other previous years, you should still expect ticks to become really active in spite of the season. Remember, it is not the time of the year that triggers the season for tick activity but a favorable climate. Global warming has become quite a significant factor in the general behavior of these little pests.
Watching for the Season
Since a tick infestation can occur practically any time of the year, watching out for the incoming season for tick activity should become a habit. Watch out both for a warm early spring or a strangely warmer winter. Take whatever necessary precaution to prevent an infestation from spreading to your pet and your home.
Tips and Reminders
It is quite fortunate that most ticks do not bear any form of disease. But that also means there are a few who do carry diseases. Count on tall grasses and brushes to have ticks in them. If you take your pet for a walk under a warm summer sun, be sure to inspect the little fellow’s fur.
Check in the warmer areas of your pet’s body such as inside the ears, the spine, and groin. Any part of your dog that has a lot of fur and is warm is a potential breeding ground. Take note that preventing an infestation is the first step to curb a long tick season.
